Glamping company West Stow Pods are building a halfling home in Suffolk and are looking for funding to complete the project. Hidden behind a round yellow door, and featuring two double bedrooms, a kitchen and a bathroom, as well as a log burner, the cosy spot will the perfect place to snuggle down with a copy of Lord Of The Rings. The project will be as sustainable as possible, with specialist builders Hartwyn Natural Building working with low-impact building techniques and materials such as rammed earth, straw bales and lime plaster, and aiming for low carbon power generation for under floor heating and hot water.
Their Poddit Hole House will be nestled into a grassy bank among their other properties in the picturesque corner of England, with Tolkien Society member Alan Baxter on hand to ensure authenticity.
“I’m not a fan of the books myself,” West Stow Pods owner Jan Lenguel told Mashable, “but Alan will ensure everything is completely authentic.”
Lenguel hopes the hobbit home will encourage Brits to discover more of the country’s natural beauty on their doorstep. “I’m hoping to prevent people from going on stupid overseas flights to soak up the sun in Benidorm,” he said. Read more…
