Nothing can beat a live comedy show. Whether it’s stand-up, improv or sketch seeing comedy done live is one of life’s pleasures. Here’s why.
1. Anything is Possible
Comedy shows are a breeding ground for accidents that turn into miracles, mistakes that become legends. You can’t really get that anywhere else.
2. Laughing is Awesome
Your job is literally just to laugh. Who doesn’t want to do that? Just be someplace for 2 hours and laugh. Nothing better.
3. Comedy is Cheap
Even national acts like Bill Cosby rarely charge more than 60 bucks a ticket. Most comedy shows are less than 15.
4. No Two Shows Are The Same
Even Second City revues aren’t the same night to night. Unlike bands or musicals comedians are usually free to change things when inspiration strikes.
5. It’s Everywhere
If your town has a bar, your town has had people doing comedy in it. Live comedy may be one of the easiest things to find.
6. It’s Risky
Will it be great? Will it completely bomb? Live comedy is great because there is always that risk that something will go drastically wrong at any point.
7. Infinite Variety
Sketch. Improv (short and long-form). Standup. Revues. Each with their own infinite variations. There are as many forms of comedy as their are genres of music. Something for everyone
8. There’s a Community
Go to the same show three times and someone will recognize you. Comedy theaters especially have a history of becoming places where people love to hang out and make friends.
9. Pre-Fame Performances
It can take years of performances for comedians to get big. Seeing shows means you’ll most likely get to see the next Chris Rock do something amazing before anyone else.
10. You Had To Be There
Nothing beats realizing you just saw a performance that can’t and won’t be repeated. Knowing you experienced something one of kind is priceless.
11. Comedy Helps You Be A Better Person
Or at least it should. Everyone Should See More Comedy!
